I want you to come to my office and take headshots of the employees. What do I need to prepare?
Ideally you will have a conference room or medium to large area where we can set up. We use professional studio lighting for all of our headshots, and this can take up some space. Bigger is better, but we prefer a space at least 8 x 15 square feet. Depending on the room and what's in it, we may be able to work with a smaller space.
Beyond the space, you really don't need to supply anything else. It's nice to have access to an electrical outlet, but we have a portable power supply we can bring with us if needs be. If there is a backless stool in the office, that would also be helpful. If you don't have a stool, we can bring one.
Clothing can make or break a photo session. The following guidelines will help you make correct choices that will lead to flattering pictures.
- Avoid patterns and prints; stick to solid, subdued colors as much as possible.
- Wear long sleeves whenever possible. The exposed skin resulting from short sleeves draws attention away from the face and can be distracting.
- Higher necklines and v-necks will slim a figure, while larger, wider necklines will add weight to your figure.
How long will my headshot take?
Not long. For basic headshots, you should expect less than 5 minutes. If you are doing an extended headshot session with multiple outfits, locations, and poses it can take a little longer.
Will I receive the digital file, or a print?
The standard deliverable for a headshot is the high resolution digital file that can be used for any purpose you wish. You are welcome to use the file to make prints on your own, or you can make high quality prints or enlargements through our Pro Lab. Your digital file will be delivered within 3 business days of the sitting. If needed, we can expedite delivery and get it to you the same day.
On what kinds of backdrops can I be photographed?
Our most popular background is a flat off-white color. We can vary this to be pure white or various shades of gray. We also have a pure black background, as well as a variety of more traditional "splotchy colored" backdrops. If your office is well decorated, we can also use the natural office space as a background.
Should I hire a makeup artist (MUA) or hair stylist?
Having a professional MUA or hair stylist can dramatically increase the quality of your headshot. It is by no means required, but many of our clients feel more attractive when they have utilized these services. We can refer you to an MUA or hair stylist if you would like.
